The Explorer became iconic because it refused to look like anything else.
 
When Gibson introduced the Explorer in 1958, it was decades ahead of its time. It took years for the world to catch up, but once hard rock and metal found it, there was no looking back. From arena stages to thrash records, the Explorer became one of the most recognizable silhouettes ever built—and somehow, it still manages to look futuristic over 60 years later.
 
This 2019 Explorer keeps things refreshingly honest. Finished in Antique Natural, there's nothing hiding beneath layers of opaque paint. The mahogany body shows off its grain beautifully, giving the guitar a warm, vintage-inspired look that feels right at home alongside its aggressive shape. The contrasting white pickguard, black headstock, and chrome hardware are pure Gibson.
 
Loaded with a pair of Gibson humbuckers, it delivers everything you'd expect from an Explorer: thick, authoritative rhythm tones, singing sustain, and enough output to push an amp without sacrificing clarity. It's a guitar that feels equally at home playing classic rock, punk, doom, hard rock, or modern metal.
 
Condition-wise, we'd comfortably call this a player-grade instrument. It shows honest use throughout, including a fair amount of buckle rash on the back and the expected bumps and bruises that come with being played instead of sitting in a case. Most of the wear is surprisingly difficult to capture in photos, but it's there—and it's exactly the kind of cosmetic wear that lets you enjoy the guitar without worrying about adding another mark.
 
It comes complete with the original Gibson hardshell case.
 
As with every guitar we sell, this Explorer has been thoroughly inspected, tested, and is fully functional. While it plays great as-is, string height and feel are subjective, so a setup to your personal preferences may further optimize the playing experience after it arrives.
