Squier Vista Super-Sonic (1990s) – Black – Crafted in Japan
Alright, let’s clear the air right now: this is NOT your “starter pack, came-with-a-crate-amp, strings-from-2009” Squier. This is a 1990s Vista Series Super-Sonic, Crafted in Japan, back when Fender Japan was casually building guitars that embarrass a lot of modern “real” Fenders… and absolutely dunk on most Squiers people think of today.
If your brain hears “Squier” and immediately pictures plywood, sharp frets, and sadness — congratulations, you’re thinking of the wrong decade, wrong factory, and wrong guitar.
This Super-Sonic is from the Vista era, which is basically Fender Japan saying “what if we made something weird, cool, offset, and actually insanely well built?” The result is a short-scale, reverse-body, dual-humbucker riot machine that feels more like a cult-classic Fender than anything with a Squier logo has any right to.
Crafted in Japan is the headline here. Tight neck pocket, solid hardware, great fretwork, and that unmistakable MIJ/CIJ feel that people chase for a reason. This thing plays fast, sounds thick, and has way more attitude than your average offset cosplay guitar.
Condition-wise: it’s good, not precious. There are bumps, bruises, and honest wear — because this guitar clearly lived a life instead of hanging on a wall waiting to be “reliced.” Everything works exactly as it should, it’s structurally solid, and it’s ready to keep causing problems in the best way.
Tone-wise, the humbuckers deliver punch, grit, and enough output to make your pedalboard nervous. Indie, alt, punk, grunge, shoegaze, garage — this thing doesn’t care what genre you play, it just wants to be loud and slightly unhinged.
And yes, it still comes with a hardshell case, because even though it looks like it might steal your girlfriend and start a band without you, it still deserves proper protection.
In short:
This is not a beginner Squier.
This is not a budget compromise.
This is a weird, badass, 90s CIJ offset with a cult following and zero apologies.
If you know, you know. If you don’t… this is your chance to learn.
